England’s hedgehog population has declined 90 percent since the end of World War II. Residents hoping that number rebounds have created a “hedgehog highway network.” More than 12,000 hedgehog holes have been made in garden fences to allow the small nocturnal creatures easy passage as they travel up to a mile each evening.
