Peter David Robinson (born December 29, 1948, Belfast, Northern Ireland) was a politician who served in the British House of Commons (1979–85, 1986–2010) and who became the first minister of Northern Ireland on June 5, 2008, serving in that capacity until January 2016. Robinson grew up in Belfast in an era when Northern Ireland’s mainly Protestant unionists completely dominated the politics of the province through the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP).
